DASALLA’S HOLIDAY HACKS
There are indeed a lot of ways to celebrate the holidays, but nothing beats eating your staple dishes with your favorite friends. But the question is, when everyone around you seems to be splurging, how do you keep yourself in shape without guilt? Here are 5 tips that DaSalla’s thought can help you plan and spend a healthy holiday:
1. Listen to your body.
Sometimes we eat when we’re bored, stressed, or until we’re uncomfortably stuffed. Pay attention to the signals your body is giving you, and it will tell you what you need and when it is too much. Try intuitive eating, which allows for treats but asks you to trust your body to tell you when to say no. Take your time and aim for a balance of healthy foods throughout the day. Also, consider a fiber-rich meal habit, especially during the day or before every meal at the party. This will help you clean and condition your body for whatever meal is set in front of you.
2. Get up and move in the morning.
Schedule your exercise in the morning so you don’t have to interrupt your holiday plans later in the day. Try to do at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week. Moreover, walking in the morning is still the most reliable habit. Doing this for at least 30 minutes a day will help you be in shape in season and out. Don’t forget to hydrate!
3. Plan your meal prep and hydrate.
You’re going to see other people eating tempting treats on their social media, but there are ways to holiday-proof your meal this season. Meet the challenges armed with a plan. Eat close to your usual time to keep your blood sugar steady. If your meal is served later than normal, eat a small snack at your usual mealtime and eat a little less when dinner is served. When invited to a party, offer to bring a healthy dish along with you. Meanwhile, when having a sweet treat, cut back on other carbs (like potatoes and bread) during the meal.
TIP: Don’t skip meals to save up for a feast. It will be harder to manage your diet, and you’ll be really hungry and more likely to overeat. If you slip up, get right back to healthy eating with your next meal. Again, always keep a tumbler of water with you to keep you hydrated.
